Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System

The Dexcom G7 Glucose Monitoring System empowers people with diabetes to take control of their health. This small wearable eliminates the guesswork of managing diabetes by measuring and sending glucose numbers to a user's phone or Dexcom receiver in real time - no fingersticks, scanning, or calibration required.

Discreet and comfortable to wear, Dexcom G7 deliver impressively powerful capabilities in a very easy to use design. With innovation at the forefront of its design, Dexcom G7 is the most accurate CGM system available and has the fastest warmup time of any system on the market. As the only iCGM system that automatically delivers a predictive low alert, it empowers people with diabetes to take action before their levels go too low. This means peace of mind while awake, and more importantly, as they sleep.

Dexcom G7 is also customizable and is designed to connect with various insulin pumps, pens, and digital health apps, making management of diabetes more seamless than ever before. This game-changing solution is the start of a new era of easier and more effective diabetes management.

Wearable Development 4_edited.jpg

The work for Dexcom G7 started over 7 years ago with a vision for a smaller, even more accurate, and easier-to-use CGM that was affordable for as many people with diabetes as possible. At the time, the electronic components inside the wearable were not small enough or powerful enough for the requirements of a wearable that has to be so reliable and so accurate that insulin dosing decisions could be made with it.

The new rounded shape with a chamfered top edge makes appear smaller and less like to catch on edges, making it easier, more discreet, and more comfortable to wear.

The applicator was designed to be small and easy to apply for a wide range of users. The design team determined that 55mm was the optimal size users with different hand sizes to get a good grip - providing a comfortable and intuitive tactile experience that makes deployment easy for users of different abilities who may have physical limitations with neuropathy or vision.

Aesthetically, special attention was given to the colors of the applicator as well, with White and Warm Gray 2C as its main colors. White makes the applicator device appear uncluttered, hygienic, and lightweight, while the warm gray color matches the wearable. The VDI-21 surface texture was applied to the applicator to create a comfortable gripping surface, showcase form through diffused light, and increase robustness to help shield the product from scratches and scuffs.

With the Dexcom G7 system, the hardware and the software need to work seamlessly with one another to integrate into our users' lives as discreetly as possible. So simultaneously with the hardware design, the software team had the challenge of simplifying the interface while also making it more helpful.
The redesigned mobile app serves as a complete diabetes management solution for people with diabetes. It has an easy to read and understand display that highlights the information that is most important for the user to see first. Users can completely customize the suite of alerts to choose when they want, and don't want, to be notified in the event their glucose is headed too low or too high. The G7 app also provides users with summary reports of their recent data. People with diabetes can track their progress towards their goal and identify areas where they want to improve their glucose control.

The app also allows users to further customize their diabetes management experience through adding external connections into the interface. Users can integrate a G7 sensor into our partner insulin pump systems, allowing our data to power automated insulin delivery (AID) systems that will auto-adjust insulin dosing based on real time glucose readings. G7 is designed to scale and integrate additional data partners like Apple Health, Garmin, and a range of 3rd party diabetes management apps.

The result of the technology, the hardware, and the software coming together is, first and foremost, for our patients. G7 delivers on our promise empower people to take control their health. It is Dexcom's smallest CGM, and the most accurate CGM available, enabling patients to make confident decisions about food, activity, and medication that lead to proven results. It delivers effortless diabetes management that fits into patients' lifestyle without the disruptions. And also important, it's on its way to being the most covered CGM system so that people with diabetes do not need to compromise quality when making health decisions.
